Scott Cluthe interviews Annie Leonard, author of The Story of Stuff. It was just released in a paperback edition. What’s in the Story of Stuff book?
Annie talks about the release of the book, The Story of Stuff: “It’s all the stuff you asked me about! After launching the Story of Stuff film, I received tens of thousands of emails asking for more information than I could possibly fit into the film. I wrote this book to explore these issues further with you and to share a journey both personal and material. While exploring where our t-shirts, laptops and books come from, I also share my own journey along the way. I share stories of how I went from being a high school kid interested in forests to an adult fascinated with garbage to realizing that the real solution lay beyond either of those issues in isolation.”

The Story of Stuff Project was created by Annie Leonard to leverage and extend the film’s impact. We amplify public discourse on a series of environmental, social and economic concerns and facilitate the growing Story of Stuff community’s involvement in strategic efforts to build a more sustainable and just world. Our on-line community includes over 150,000 activists and we partner with hundreds of environmental and social justice organizations worldwide to create and distribute our films, curricula and other content.

The Story of Stuff Project is fiscally sponsored by the Tides Center. The Tides Center is supported by grants from both private and public foundations, contributions from viewers, and earned revenue from speaking appearances and DVD and book sales.

Then Scott has arepeat of a recent interview with best selling author, teacher and speaker Marci SHimoff. Her latest book is Love For No Reason: 7 Steps to Creating a Life of Unconditional Love.

Take a trip to the outer edges of current thought in physics, reality and what is possible. Scott Cluthe’s guest is Dr. Steven Manly, author of the new book, Visions of the Multiverse.

The idea of a multiple universe reality is no longer considered speculative or implausible by many physicists; rather, it is deemed inescapable. Distinct concepts of the multiverse spring from quantum mechanics, cosmology, string theory—based cosmology, and ideas about a mathematics based reality that borders on the religious.
In his new book Dr. Manly guides you on a tour of the many multiverse concepts and provides the non-technical background to understand them.

Visions of the Multiverse explores questions such as:
Just what is a multiverse?
What are the different concepts of the multiverse and how are they related?
Is it possible to determine if we live in a multiverse…or even in multiple types of multiverses? How do religious concepts of the afterlife and popular ideas based on the Law of Attraction relate to the scientific visions of the multiverse?

Dr. Manly discusses a wide variety of fascinating concepts—from relativity and the fundamental particles and forces of nature to dark matter, dark energy, and quantum mechanics-in an unintimidating and conversational tone.

Is humanity is in the midst of a new Copernican revolution? You decide.
Dr. Steven Manly works on experiments at high-energy accelerators around the world, probing the structure of matter and the forces of nature.
He has authored or coauthored more than 200 scientific publications. Equipped with a PhD in high-energy physics from Columbia University, Professor Manly teaches at the University of Rochester, where he terrorizes students in the introductory physics course sequences. In 2003, he was named the N.Y. State Professor of the Year, and more recently, was the recipient of the 2007 Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award by the American Association of Physics Teachers.

Scott has a fascinating and knowledgable guest who should challenge him and his audience Tuesday night ! Dr. Jesse Bering, author of The Belief Instinct.
Why is belief so hard to shake? Despite our best attempts to embrace rational thought and reject superstition, we often find ourselves appealing to unseen forces that guide our destiny, wondering who might be watching us as we go about our lives, and imagining what might come after death.

In this lively and masterfully argued new book, Jesse Bering unveils the psychological underpinnings of why we believe. Combining lucid accounts of surprising new studies with insights into literature, philosophy, and even pop culture, Bering gives us a narrative that is as entertaining as it is thought-provoking. He sheds light on such topics as our search for a predestined life purpose, our desire to read divine messages into natural disasters and other random occurrences, our visions of the afterlife, and our curiosity about how moral and immoral behavior are rewarded or punished in this life.

Bering traces all of these beliefs and desires to a single trait of human psychology, known as the “theory of mind,” which enables us to guess at the intentions and thoughts of others. He then takes this groundbreaking argument one step further, revealing how the instinct to believe in God and other unknowable forces gave early humans an evolutionary advantage. But now that these psychological illusions have outlasted their evolutionary purpose, Bering draws our attention to a whole new challenge: escaping them.

Scott Cluthe
has 3 guests tonight live. First, he talks with co-authors Marie Jones and Larry Flaxman. Together they comprise the ParaExplorers. We’ll discuss their latest book, The Trinity.

Then Scott interviews Lisa Cohen, Ph.D. Lisa has produced The Handy Psychology Answer Book, which gives us short hand psychology insight that transends either “pop” psychology or dusty academic work that the average person finds no use for.
Millions of people recognize the Holy Trinity, but few understand that the concept behind it goes far beyond any one religion or belief system. What if the Trinity was an ancient code, a formula, a SECRET so simple, yet so powerful, it could change the way we look at our relationship with the Creator, and with creation itself?

Marie D. Jones is the best-selling author of “2013: End of Days or a New Beginning,” “The Déjà vu Enigma: A Journey Through the Anomalies of Mind, Memory and Time,” and “11:11 – The Time Prompt Phenomenon: The Meaning Behind Mysterious Signs, Sequences and Synchronicities.” Larry Flaxman is the best-selling author of “The Déjà vu Enigma: A Journey Through the Anomalies of Mind, Memory and Time” and “11:11 – The Time Prompt Phenomenon: The Meaning Behind Mysterious Signs, Sequences and Synchronicities.”

In The Handy Psychology Answer Book, Lisa J. Cohen, PhD endeavors to provide answers to approximately 1000 questions regarding the study of the human mind in an easy-to-read Q&A format. Dr. Cohen states that her inspiration for writing this book was the realization that the general public lacks knowledge of the latest scientific research in the field of psychology, whereas in the past, researchers such as Skinner and Piaget were household names.

The purpose of this book is to bridge the gap between the actual research that is taking place in the field and the “pop psychology” that has become popularized by the likes of Dr. Phil and Dr. Laura.
